Introducing Vlad, our CEO

A few days ago, we managed to get Vlad to sit down with us for a few minutes and tell us about the interesting past behind OAK3. It may come as no surprise that we found some very interesting facts while traveling down memory lane.

How did you start OAK3?
OAK3 was founded in 2010 as a software development company. We started from scratch with little experience in this domain but with a powerful drive for learning and evolution. To start the company, an investment had to be made and as such, a business plan was created and we started looking for an investor. We found that in the person of Razvan, who trusted us and also found the business plan appealing. After gaining his confidence, we made the first steps towards what OAK3 is today. The name of the company has some history behind it too: we chose the oak, a symbol of strength, and the 3 founders who laid the base of this amazing venture.

What is your favorite OAK3 memory?
I must say that the time I spent together with our client and now friend, Mr. Benjamin Cryer at his house in Sydney, was one of the best times I had while traveling for business purposes. It was my first time in Australia and Ben made sure I get a taste of the culture and environment. We had quite some fun while also working on one of his company’s construction projects, Sunbuild.

What is your favorite project you have worked on?
The development we did for the Fulton Fish Market in New York was one of the most interesting and challenging projects. The Fulton team had a great idea and that was making fish available based on a subscription model. It was a challenging technical implementation, but it brought a lot of revenue. The project involved a lot of travel to the US for discussing specifications and making the hardware build in the market, but I enjoyed every bit of it. Of course, the best part was eating the freshest fish possible.

Why did you choose Magento as the leading product for Oak 3?
We chose it because Magento is the leading eCommerce platform out there and there is a lot of demand for it. Of course, we did not know this when we selected it, but we did get a feeling of what it was to become and we pursued this direction. Over the years, Magento has grown into the industry standard, trusted by over 250,000 merchants worldwide. We grew alongside it, and 10 years later, and having a few Magento Certifications under our belts, we are now one of the best solution partners in Romania.

What is the most interesting Magento integration that you have worked on?
I have to mention the Fulton Fish Market project again because we developed a proprietary WMS and Order Fulfilment system. Written from the first line of code and down to the last by the OAK3 developers, it integrates with Magento 1 and 2, with the hardware that we built for them for fish processing, with various shipping companies, and with other systems that help getting the fish from the market to the client’s door as smoothly as possible. This integration has been in production for over 4 years now and had no failures.
